Originally built in 1068 by William the Conqueror and constructed from motte and bailey, Warwick Castle was rebuilt in stone during the 12th century to resemble its current structure. Refortification was carried out during the 14th century as a result of the hundred years war and now when you visit Warwick Castle you will see one of the most outstanding 14th century military buildings created.
Warwick Castle was used a stronghold from the 14th century until the 17th century when James I offered the castle to Sir Fulke Greville, who converted it into his country home.
